After successfully organizing his fellow U.S. Forest Service employees into a collective voice for environmental ethics, Jeff DeBonis decided to found PEER in 1992 as way to spread this movement to other agencies. Since then, thousands of public employees who work in a myriad of agencies at every level of government, have made DeBonis’s dream a reality -- by working through PEER to forge a socially responsible value system for their agencies, based on a land ethic which ensures ecologically and economically sustainable resource management and which conforms to a true commitment to environmental protection. ![]()
A Message From PEER's Founder
Greetings friends and colleagues! PEER stands for the best in public service and commitment to the environment by representing an important counter-force to those who demand weakening governmental protection of America's land, air, water quality.
PEER stands for higher standards in protecting America's most essential resources and quality of life. With so much at risk in the delicate balance of the natural world order, we must expect more -- not less -- from our leaders and the rank and file who are charged with maintaining environmental security. PEER is uniquely serving the purpose of strengthening the courage, morale, and integrity of the public workforce on the front-lines of environmental protection.

Bottom line: Environmental laws are meaningless without a qualified, diligent public workforce to ensure implementation in the real world. PEER is reinforcing the value of public service to the environment by standing up for those who fulfill their obligation as stewards of our nation’s natural resources -- resources that belong to the American people.
On behalf of PEER’s staff, and the resource professionals on the front lines, thanks for your interest and your support. Know that PEER is ready and willing to help if you need us.
Jeff DeBonis
