Public Service Pledge - Home

One of the undeniable legacies of the Bush administration has been unprecedented political manipulation of environmental science. On topics ranging from global warming to ground squirrels, scientific findings have been changed to filter out inconvenient facts.

While fighting against this inveterate interference, we at PEER are resolved never to let it happen again. To that end, we are asking each White House aspirant to take the “Public Service Pledge” by committing to:

  • Conduct the people’s business in the open;
  • Support public servants who tell the truth and have zero tolerance for retaliation against whistleblowers; and
  • Protect scientists who report inconvenient truths.

To assist in getting the message across, we have recruited a Leadership Council consisting of prominent Americans, such as Robert Kennedy, Jr., Dr. James Hansen of NASA, former U.S. Rep. Pete McCloskey, Al Franken, former FBI agent Colleen Rowley, Jim Hightower, and others. This group is joining PEER in asking each candidate to sign a pledge promising that in his or her administration we will not see the sort of gross informational chicanery we have witnessed during the past six years.

Look at which candidates have responded so far.

You can help. This campaign center has a list of candidates with all the information you need to contact the campaign of your favorite (or not so favorite) candidate to sign the Public Service Pledge.
